The Castle of Chora

The Castle of Chora, one of the most characteristic landmarks of the island, offers delightful views overlooking the Aegean and Cretan Seas. It measures 200 meters in length, 80 meters in width, and sits at an altitude of 200 meters!
Formerly known as "Fortezza," which means fortress in Italian, as it is another Venetian castle. It was built in the 13th century, and its current appearance has been preserved since the early 16th century. At the entrance of the castle, one will encounter the tunnel, and as they proceed inward, they'll come across the dungeons and a large cistern from that era. Additionally, there are still several ruins of houses, an armory, and the old headquarters - all invaluable monuments.
Paleochora

Paleochora is the old capital of Kythira. It's an area that was built in the 12th century on the northeastern side of the island, right on the crest of a cliff.
If one visits Paleochora, they will see ruins of fortifications and buildings from that era. Their beauty remains unchanged even today. Among them are remnants of churches with masterful paintings and stunning architecture.
You can also visit the Kakia Lagada Gorge, which starts from the village of Trifillianika and continues next to the Byzantine Citadel of Paleochora. At the end of the gorge, there is a beautiful beach where you can swim and relax after the journey.
Mylopotamos

Just 30 minutes from the Chora of Kythira, there is one of the most characteristic villages of the island, Mylopotamos. Rich vegetation, crystalline waters, stunning architecture - a heavenly place that combines them all!
The name of the village originated from the watermills that were a point of reference in the daily life of the locals in previous years. Several watermills have been preserved until today, and it's truly worth visiting them. Most of them are monuments, however, one has been maintained in good condition so you can admire its interior as well.
To reach the watermills, follow the road to Agios Sostis and proceed towards the waterfalls of Neraida.
